Tell us a bit about @knotourplanet and how it began.

My name is Lara I'm 25 years old and I am from Germany. From a very young age,I have been a creative mind. A few years ago I tried out macramé and instantly fell in love with this craft. It was not until two years ago, I finally decided to create my own label Knotourplanet and became a part-time artist.

What is your fiber of choice when creating?

My fiber of choice  will be  Soft Cotton Cord 4mm in natural color. I just love how clean the knots look with this kind of cord. Also, sandy or earthy tones, mustard and copper are my faves.

How would you describe your studio / home space and does it reflect your personality?

My home space where i create is pretty chaotic at first sight, there are looots of plants and books there. I feel really inspired when i am surrounded by my favorite things. The space is actually a winter garden so it has many windows and is filled with light all the time. In spring and autumm the sun isn‘t too hot and with all my windows open it almost feels like i am outside. I guess that reflects a lot of my personality. I am a bit chaotic, love nature and feel artsy and inspired when i am comfortable and surrounded by pretty details.

Do you have any object of sentimental value that is linked to your work or business?

I have a very old measuring tape and needle set from my great grandma which I love and use all the time during my macramé process. Other than that, I use my mom's old journal case for my creative journal where I plan and draw my designs. I feel very connected and inspired using them so I guess they are in a way linked to my creative process.

What is your process of creation and or making, do you have any rituals?

My ritual is definitely listening to 70's music and do little dances while knotting. And another ritual: The night before a new project I already cut the cords and attach them so that i can directly start with the fun part of creating something new!

How much importance do you give to the quality of the fibers you use in your creations?

I think the quality of the fibers is very important. It affects the look of the final piece and also the feeling while knotting. Sustainability is a very important factor for me too, so I try to use only locally made cords and support small businesses.

As a creative, who would be someone you will like to collaborate with?

There comes no one special to my mind! In general I think it would be great to visit an international macramé festival of some kind. Where you could meet other artists and get to know fellow creatives from all over the world. Connecting, knotting together, inspiring each other and so on.

What has made you happy lately?

The ability to travel again! I went on a roadtrip with some friends. We visited southern europe and it was just magical. Feeling the sun on my skin, listening to music together and exploring nature. We went on a hike up a mountain and the view made me feel so happy and free! I definitely recharged my creative batteries there.

Does traveling experiences have contribute to your creativity, if so, which country has had the most impact on your creative process?

Oh yes. A lot! All these new experiences: cultural details of each country  contribute a lot to my creative process. There is no specific country that has had the most impact. For example: I went to western America a few years ago and came across the californian cholla cactus, since then, I started to use cholla wood in my work. Looking through photos of past travels alway inspires me. Most of the time there is no specific cause, I just start to feel all artsy and start collecting my cords and supplies.

Lara, your interview and tour of your creative space was wonderful. Traveling to Germany from Davidson, NC, USA, was really engaging for me. It helped me feel that I got out of my little space we’ve all been stuck in during these unusual times!

Yes, wouldn’t it be so cool if there was an international macrame festival, what great inspiration we would all find there.

Your work is beautiful, and it is an inspiration to me, and I’m sure many others!

Hi! This was inspiring and your hangings and studio are very beautiful.

I bought some basic macrame supplies and for whatever reason I have a block starting. I think it’s partly I barely remember doing macrame (it’s been 40 years!!! I used to make hangings and give as Christmas presents).

When I used to do macrame I think my dad put a hook in the ceiling and I somehow worked off of that. Here? I just have a wall. Idk, thanks for listening, I’m kind of rambling but glad to see your photos and start think about doing something creative again! Meg
