"Summer is just around the corner so get ready to enjoy the outdoors with this beautiful summer hat, the perfect accessory, but also a necessary one to protect you from the sun.

This hat is made with Ganxxet Washi yarn, because this material is soft, light, fresh but also strong and resistant. You have a great color selection to choose from and match your summer favorite looks.

We crochet this project in just one piece.

BASE: Start with a magic ring of 6 chain stitches   Close with sl st and grow to the first row with 1 ch st.

ROW 1:  Grow with 2 sc in each stitch of the previous row (12 in total). Close with a sl st in the first chain stitch of the row and grow with 1 ch st.

ROW 2 : *2 sc in the first stitch (increase), 1 sc in the following one* and we repeat this 5 times (18 stitches in total). Close with a sl st in the first chain stitch of the first row and grow with 1 ch st.

ROW 3: * 2 sc in the first stitch (inc), 1 sc, 1 sc* repeat this 5 times (24 stitches in total). Close with a sl st in the first chain stitch and grow with 1 ch st.

ROW 4:  * 2 sc in the first stitch (inc), 1 sc, 1 sc, 1sc*  repeat 5 times (30 stitches in total). Close with a sl st in the first chain stitch and grow with 1 ch st.

ROW 7: * 2 sc in the first stitch (inc), 1 sc, 1 sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc*  repeat 5 times (48 stitches in total). Close with a sl st in the first chain stitch and grow with 1 ch st.

ROW 8: * 2 sc in the first stitch (inc), 1 sc, 1 sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc*  repeat 5 times (54 stitches in total). Close with a sl st in the first chain stitch and grow with 1 ch st.

ROW 9: * 2 sc in the first stitch (inc), 1 sc, 1 sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc*  repeat 5 times (60 stitches in total). Close with a sl st in the first chain stitch and grow with 1 ch st.

ROW 10: * 2 sc in the first stitch (inc), 1 sc, 1 sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc*  repeat 5 times (66 stitches in total). Close with a sl st in the first chain stitch and grow with 1 ch st.

ROW 11: * 2 sc in the first stitch (inc), 1 sc, 1 sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc*  repeat 5 times (72 stitches in total). Close with a sl st in the first chain stitch and grow with 1 ch st.

ROW 12: * 2 sc in the first stitch (inc), 1 sc, 1 sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc*  repeat 5 times (78 stitches in total). Close with a sl st in the first chain stitch and grow with 1 ch st.

ROW 13: * 2 sc in the first stitch (inc), 1 sc, 1 sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 1sc*  repeat 5 times (84 stitches in total). Close with a sl st in the first chain stitch and grow with 1 ch st.

We have finished the base, now we have to crochet the hat structure so we will not increase stitches.

ROW 14: 3 ch st (counts as the first half double crochet), in the following stitches 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 ch st and skip 1 stitch. Inserting the hook in the 5th chain, make * 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 ch st, skip 1 stitch* repeat until the end of the row and close with a sl st (84 stitches in total).

ROW 15: 3 ch st (counts as the first half double crochet), 1 ch st.* Inserting the hook in the chain of the previous row, make * 3 hdc, 1 ch st, skip 3 stitches* repeat 19 times. 2 hdc and close with a sl st (84 stitches in total).

ROW 16: in the first chain of the previous row, 3 chain stitches, in the following stitches make 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 ch st, skip 3 stitches *1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 ch st, we skip 1 stitch* repeat 20 times. Close with sl st (84 stitches).

Repeat rows 15 and 16 three more times until row 22 or try it on and check if you need one more row.The hat should be above the ear more or less.

NOTE: Some tricks! ;) When you finish the row 22 we close with a sl st. From now on, we will work on spiral like in the amigurumis, so we will not grow with a chain stitch. Making it like this, the change of row will be invisible in the hat lapel. Also, because we want to maintain the shape round, we will alternate the increase in each row, so the points that are created when we maintain the increases at the beginning or end of the rows will disappear.

We recommend from now on to use the stitch marker at the beginning of each row.

ROW 23: 1 sc in each stitch (84 stitches in total). This row will serve as a reinforcement and therefore we do not increase.

Use the stitch marker for the first stitch in the following row.

ROW 24: * 2 sc (inc) and mark the first stitch, 13 sc * repeat until the end of the row (90 stitches).

ROW 25: 1 sc in each stitch (90 in total).

ROW 26:  7 sc. * 2 sc. (inc), 14 sc.* repeat 5 times, 2 sc (inc), 7 sc until you arrive at the stitch marker (96 stitches in total).

ROW 27: 1 sc in each stitch (96 stitches in total).

ROW 28: * 2 sc (inc), 15 sc* repeat until the end of the row (102 stitches in total).

ROW 29: 1 sc in each stitch (102 in total)

ROW 30:  8 sc * 2 sc (inc), 16 sc* repeat 5 times, 2 sc (inc), 8 sc until the stitch mark (108 in total).

ROW 31: 1 sc in each stitch (108 in total)

Follow this pattern until you have the size of the hat lapel that you like. In the last stitch use the yarn needle to top off the project.

I arrived until the row 41 with just 1 skein of washi yarn. What do you think of the result? The hat lapel is almost a perfect round!

If you have washi yarn leftovers, take 3 strands (4 ft aprox) and make a braid as the one below. Encircle the hat with it and tie it with a knot. You can fix it with some stitches or, if you prefer, pass the braid between the spaces left by the groups of half double crochet stitches.
