Days are longer in summer and we all love to enjoy these extra hours of light with backyard dinners with family and friends. To show to your guests your creative side, you can personalize your table with placemats made by you with Ganxxet fabric yarn. You can mix the colors and patterns and create an unique design. Also they are perfect as a gift!
Laura from Loops by Laura has create these beautiful placemats and here you have the step by step tutorial, enjoy!
To make 6 placemats we need the following:
- 6 rolls of GANXXET Fabric Yarn SOLID COLORS (2 of each color)
- Crochet hook N12 mm
Time: 5 hrs
Stitches used: chain stitch (ch st), single crochet ( sc ), half doble crochet ( hdc) , doble crochet ( dc ), increase (inc)
Colors: WHITE: A - GREEN: B - OCHER: C
Before we begin...
We crochet this pattern in a circle. Each time we change the color, we will close the project but not using a slip stitch. We will see how to close it with a perfect finish!
Step by Step:
ROW 1: Color A. Start with a magic ring with 12 doble crochet stitches. You have to make 3 chain stitches (count as a first stitch) and 11 dc.
Now let's see how to close the rows:
We will close the project as we see in the pictures, so it will look perfect! We leave the crochet hook and we insert the yarn in the chain stitches. We insert the yarn in the hole of the second single crochet stitch. Pull the yarn until it's the same size than the rest of the stitches. This way nobody can notice were you have started or ended the project. it's easy and the result is better than with a slit stitch!
ROW 2: Color B. In this row it doesn't matter were you begin. We increase 2 sc in each stitch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpH_Iu-qa5g We close the row. (24 stitches in total).
ROW 3 : Color C. In this row we don't increase the stitches, so we have to tighten the stitches so the circle doesn't shrink. 1 sc for each stitch until the end of the row but we take only the back part of the hole. Crocheting like this it will be like a rim. We close the row. (24 stitches in total).
ROW 4: Color A. 3 ch st and 1 dc in the same stitch (inc.), 1 ch st, we skip 1 stitch, *2 dc in the same stitch, 1 ch st, we skip 1 stitch. We repeat from * 10 times. We close the row (36 stitches in total).
ROW 5: Color C. In this row we begin crocheting *2 sc (inc) in the first dc in any of the group of 2 dc on the previous row, 1 sc, 1 hdc in the sc 2 rows below; Repeat from * until the end of the row. We close the row (48 stitches in total).
ROW 6: Color B. We begin this row in the hdc of the previous row *2 sc (inc), 1 sc, 1 sc, 1 sc; Repeat from * until the end of the row. (60 stitches in total).
ROW 7: Color A. We begin in the first sc of the increase of the previous row. We start with 2 chain stitches ( it is used as 1 hdc) and 1 hdc in the same stitch (inc), 1hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 ch st, and skip 1 stitch * 2 hdc (inc), 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 ch stitch and we skip 1 stitch; we repeat from * until the end of the row (72 stitches in total).
ROW 8: Color B. We star crocheting *1 sc in the first hdc of any of the group of 2 hdc in the previous row, 1 sc, 1 sc, 1 sc, 1 sc, 1 sc in the sc skipped 2 rows below; repeat from * until the end of the row. We close the row (84 stitches in total).
aaaannnd THAT'S IT!! Our summer placemat is finished! I'm sure you want to finish them all and start using them in your summer gatherings! I have combined the 3 colors and make two versions of it. Also if you have any fabric yarn left, you can make smaller ones for the dessert dishes or even coasters for glasses.
