Valentine's Day is almost here to remind us that love is what truly runs the world. We are not just talking about romantic love but love for your family, friends, and neighbors! In the middle of the chaos of this pandemic, showing our love has been more important than ever.

Let's celebrate this Valentine's Day more than ever, showing all the people we care about in our lives that they are appreciated this year. Nothing says "you are important for me" more than a handmade gift. It means that you have dedicated time for that person, one of our most valued resources nowadays. Whether or not you are an experienced maker doesn't matter, the fact that an item is handmade makes all the difference in the world!

We are proposing a beginner macrame pattern of a heart shaped coaster. It is easy, quick and a perfect gift for anybody. Make it in a red or pink cotton cord if you love these colors or want to use them in a romantic setting or choose a neutral if you want them to be used all year around, they are very versatile!

Heart Shape Macrame Coasters

SKILL LEVEL – Beginner

SIZE

 7 in. x 6 in.

MATERIALS
-
GANXXET Soft Cotton Cord 4mm – 1 single strand

  • Amour
  • Natural
  • Primrose

- comb

- sharp scissors

- clipboard

- measuring tape

- 10” long wooden dowel

 

NOTES

  1. Requires knowledge of square knot & larks head knot
  2. Keep tension of knots similar for uniform effect
  3. You can work on a flat surface using a clipboard or you may find it easier to hang dowel from a rack
  4. Pattern consists of 10 total rows
  5. SK = Square Knot

 

COASTERS

Cut 12 pieces of rope at 70”

Find center of each rope and rope in half
Attach ropes to dowel using larks head knot ( pull ends of rope through top loop and tighten)
Attached dowel with ropes to clipboard (or rack)

Take 4 left outer ropes and pull aside
Take 4 right outer ropes and pull aside

(These ropes will be used in the second row)

 

TIP: The entire coaster is comprised of only right sided square knots no alternating is necessary.

 

Row #1:

Take the next 4 ropes on the left and make a SK starting 1" down from dowel

Repeat SK on right side using 4 right ropes starting 1” down from dowel

Row #1 is complete with a total of 2 SK’s

 

Row #2:

Begin on left take 2 ropes that were set aside to and make SK

Repeat on right side using two most right ropes and make SK

On the left side create a SK using two ropes from the above SK to continue second row

Row #2 is complete with a total of 4 SK’s

 

 

Row #3:

Create by repeating the same pattern above increasing amount of SK’s

Row #3 is complete with a total of 6 SK’s

 

Row #4:

Create by joining two sides together with a SK in the center

Row #4 is complete with 5 SK’s

 

Row #5

Create by repeating the same pattern with outer most left rope and continue across

Row #5 is complete with 6 SK’s

 

Row #6

Create by repeating the same pattern decreasing by 1 SK

Row #6 is complete with 5 SK’s

 

Row #7

Create by repeating the same pattern decreasing by 1 SK

Row #7 is complete with 4 SK’s

 

Row #8

Create by repeating the same pattern decreasing by 1 SK

Row #8 is complete with 3 SK’s

 

Row #9

Create by repeating the same pattern decreasing by 1 SK

Row #9 is complete with 2 SK’s

 

Row #10

Create by repeating the same pattern decreasing by 1 SK

Row #10 is complete with 1 SK

First coaster is complete!

TIP: If using a clipboard lift up dowel, fold coaster, and re-attach to clipboard

Measure 4” down on the 5th rope from the left (this is where you will create your first SK repeat on 5th rope from right)


Repeat entire process to complete additional coasters
Remove wooden dowel and coaster from clipboard
Slide coasters off of wooden dowel
Use scissors to trim 1" around perimeter of coaster in heart shape
From your scrap pieces cut 4 pieces - 6" each
Fold in half and attach using a larks head knot to each side of heart, trim
Use comb to brush out fringe
Re-trim with scissors to clean up edges
