Before you knot
Questions, answered
What does "3-ply" mean?
Ply is the number of strands twisted together to make the rope. A 3-ply rope is spun from three separate strands, which makes it stronger and more durable than a single-strand cord — and gives your knots a lovely, defined twist.
Which thickness should I choose?
Match the rope to the make. Go 2mm for delicate, detailed pieces like earrings, keychains, and bookmarks. Go 3mm when you want crisp, defined knots for plant hangers and wall hangings. Go 5mm — our best seller — for chunky texture, geometric designs, and big statement weaves. Working small details into a large piece? Many makers keep all three on hand.
What does "zero waste" mean?
We make our rope from recycled cotton rescued from garment-industry offcuts — no new dyeing, just similarly colored fabrics broken back down into fiber and spun into thread. It uses less water and creates fewer emissions than conventional cord. One happy side effect: colors can vary slightly batch to batch, so order all you need for a project at once.
How much rope comes on a spool?
It depends on the thickness — the finer the rope, the more length you get. The 2mm spool holds around 160 yards, while the chunky 5mm holds about 55 yards. Every product page lists its exact length, so check your pattern and grab enough to finish in one batch.
Is cotton rope good for beginners?
Very. Cotton is soft, holds knots well, and is far less likely to unravel than slippery synthetic cords. The chunkier 5mm is especially forgiving — if a knot goes wrong, it's easy to see and easy to untie, so you can try again until it's just right.
How do I care for finished pieces?
Spot-clean when you can. For a fuller refresh, hand-wash gently in cool water with a mild detergent and lay flat to dry so your piece keeps its shape. Being natural cotton, it air-dries beautifully.
